  Fire Activity in Milltown

Second Quarter Department Activity
2007

The main event that has give the Milltown Fire Department an excessive number of calls thus far was due to the floods that occurred back in April.  There were in excess of 60 calls that were responded to over a 24 hour period.

The power to the town was shut off and the majority of calls revolved around flooding issues in resident’s homes and several motor vehicles stranded in the rising waters near the Post Office and Washington Avenue.

Our new Dodge Durango Chief’s vehicle was put into service on June 25, 2007.  The long awaited arrival of the truck was a welcome sight.  The Milltown Fire Department now has three Chief’s vehicles that were purchased exclusively for the department.  The Borough sold our oldest vehicle, a converted Crown Victoria police car, to Old Bridge.

Ladder 73 was called to East Brunswick to assist in a stand-by for a house fire on Greenwood Circle.  As the need for manpower rose, they were moved up to the scene to assist.

The repairs to Engine 63 have been completed and highlighted by the replacement of an undersized generator.  The need to do major bodywork and additional work caused the apparatus to be out of service for roughly one month.  Other changes included the replacement of the light bar to an all LED display.

There has been the arrival of some new equipment, including two new thermal imaging cameras. We now have one on every apparatus.  The installation of a new accountability system will be done in the month of July.

On June 30, 2007 Engine 63 attended a Dedication at the Community Fire Company in Franklin New Jersey. A good time was had by those who attended.

Memorial Day 2007

The end of May brings us our Annual Memorial Day services.  The services began with the placing of a wreath at Eureka Hose Company by Chief Brian Bush.

The Members then took part in the silent march across town to Eureka Engine Company for services to be held in front of the Monument.

Once the equipment was parked and members in place, a long blast from the siren could be heard throughout the town, signifying the start of the program, which was led by Department Chaplain William Petry Jr.

The Milltown Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, and the Milltown Exempt Firemen’s Association placed flowers in memory of those we have lost. The reading of our departed members over the past year was held, followed by the playing of Taps and bagpipes.

A list of the names of the past Members who had flowers placed at the Memorial by their friends and families was held prior to the commencement of the services.

Afterwards, members from the Department headed to North Brunswick for their Annual Memorial Day Parade.

Middlesex County Caucus

The Middlesex County Annual Pre-Convention Caucus will once again be held in Milltown; this has been the norm for several years now.  It will be held at the American Legion Hall at 4 JFK Drive on Wednesday, August 1, 2007. Registration begins at 6:00pm; the meeting begins at 7:00pm sharp. Food will be once again prepared by the Milltown Fire Department.

Jensen's Fish Market Swan Song

This year’s “Annual Clam Bake” will mark the end of an era.  This will be the last year that Jensen’s will do the event due to the fact that they will be closing the business.

It was voted to have a commemorative plaque presented to Jensen’s in appreciation of the many years service that they have provided the Milltown Fire Department for.  Their services also include the fish for the Annual Fish Fry held at our January meeting.

We would like to urge as many members to come out to this year’s event to say “Thank You”.  These will be very large shoes to fill, and we will begin the search for a replacement shortly.
